Counselling is the method through which faith communities bring God’s compassion and grace closer to the hearts of people. Over the past 15 years the Counselling Programme assisted more than 1200 LGBTI individuals, couples, parents, families and friends to discover that homosexuality and the Christian faith does not exclude one another. IAM’s Journey of Hope Workshop, reconciling sexuality with spirituality, has been held 7 times and attended by more than 100 individuals. IAM staff and board members are regular guest preachers at the Good Hope Metropolitan Church and at other mainline faith communities. As organisation, IAM continues to look for opportunities to start new support groups for LGBTI people and for parents, and aims to have support groups at the University of Cape Town campus, in George and in the northern suburbs of Cape Town by the end of 2009. |
