IAM developed partner-ships with organisations in Southern Africa to support their members to integrate sexuality with spirituality and empower them to support their faith communities to become more welcoming, inclusive and affirming of LGBTI members. A strong partnership has developed with The Rainbow Project (TRP) in Namibia since 2003, resulting in IAM assisting them with research, the development of material, training, the transfer of skills required to work with faith communities on the human rights of LGBTI people, and Train-The-Trainer workshops. This also included a Pastoral Counselling Course during which TRP volunteers were trained as Level 1 Counsellors, increasing their capacity to handle the psycho-social needs of the TRP constituency. The success of this partnership with TRP led IAM to establish new partnerships in Malawi and Lesotho; and to network with concerned individuals in Zambia and the Republic of the Congo. IAM is always aware of safety and security challenges, and is sensitive to the partnering and networking needs of individual countries and their position on LGBTI matters.
