The Launch of Miriam Dancing, an anthology of true stories by lesbian, bisexual & transgender women

On Women’s Day 2009 in South Africa, Elise van Wyk launched an anthology of true stories by lesbian, bisexual and transgender women. Women in the LGBTI community often have to deal with the tension between the internalised homophobic images of same-sex love, which fundamentalist Christianity regularly endorses, and commitment to their own passionate hearts. In Miriam Dancing a diverse group of South African women tell their personal stories of love for their own kind.

Besides assisting with a grant application to the European organization Mama Cash, IAM provided funding to launch the project, and helped with production costs.

Illustrated with beautiful black and white photographs, and printed on beige recycled paper, Miriam Dancing is also available under the Afrikaans title, Miriam Dans.
