 | Rev Pieter Oberholzer: DirectorHolds a Masters degree in theology. He was refused entry into the ministry of the Dutch Reformed Church because of his homosexual orientation and became pastor with the Reformed Church of Holland for 10 years; worked as regional director for a community development organisation in the Western Cape from 1983 to 1992; he was part of the core group of OLGA (Organisation of Lesbians and Gays against Apartheid) that negotiated with the ANC in the late 80’s that resulted in the protection of LGBTI people in the constitution. In 1999 he received the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Association Against Defamation) leadership award in Kansas City. He founded IAM in 1995 and has been its director ever since. |
Rev Judith Kotzé: Senior Programme ManagerJudith Kotzé qualified as a Dutch Reformed minister in 1995 at Stellenbosch University. In 1998 she continued her studies at Stellenbosch University and completed a Masters degree in Missiology, working on Interreligious Dialogue as a model for the Intra-faith Dialogue around sexual orientation in 2001. She joined the staff of IAM in 2000, first as a researcher, grew as project leader over the years and in January 2008, became the second fulltime staff member of IAM as its senior program manager. Judith is also a senior trainer of the More To Life Program, which facilitates lifeskills trainings all over South Africa and is undergrid by the Kairos Foundation (www.moretolife.org), since 2002. | |
| Ps Retha Benadé: Administrator In 1988 Retha qualified as teacher at the Potchefstroom Teacher's College. Obtained her B.A. Theology at RAU in 2003, and completed her honours in pastoral counselling in 2004. She joined IAM on 1 November 2006. Retha was part of the Charismatic Church for seventeen years, first as member and later as qualified pastor. Due to her sexual orientation she was not welcome in the Church and left the Charismatic Church and the ministry. But returned after two years to join the IAM team in their efforts for justice and equality for LGBTI people in the faith communities. |
Ingrid Schoonraad - Management Consultant Ingrid has been involved with IAM since 2003, assisting us with developing training resources and in 2007 with major strategic planning and staff development. Through her involvement with IAM, diversity management and inclusivity became a focus in her work. | |
| Me Bulelwa Panda: IThemba Lam Administrator
Participated in the Video Project of IAM in 2002. She has a diploma in pre-school teaching and has successfully completed a course in Life Skill training. She was employed by IAM to establish and sustain LGBTI support groups in the townships of Gugulethu and Khayelitsha (Cape Town). She came out as a lesbian in 2003 and had faced many difficult challenges regarding her family and friends. |
Doctor David Russell - Anglican Process Coordinator David has a PhD in Theological Ethics and is the author of the booklet The Bible and Homosexuality – What is the Spirit saying to the churches? He joined the IAM Board in 2004, and later became a part-time consultant in a support role at the IThemba Lam Project in the Xhosa-speaking communities of Cape Town. He retired as Bishop of Grahamstown after 16 years, having attended the Lambeth Conferences of Anglican Bishops in 1988 and 1998. David remains very involved, working for change in the church and community. | |
